When does your pet go from puppy and kitten to senior?

It is often misconstrued at which age does our pet become considered a ‘senior’ and what that means. There is no direct answer because it varies between species and size does affect this decision. Cats and small dogs are generally considered geriatric at the age of seven. Larger dogs, unfortunately tend to have shorter life spans. They can typically be considered geriatric at the age of six.
We have all heard the myth that one dog year equals to 7 human years, while this is a close estimate we found this table by the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) to be more accurate.

As our beloved pets grow older there are more concerns we need to be aware of and prepare for. Our very own veterinarian here at Mission Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Ieva Jansky will discuss further in details on our Facebook page in a live video discussion Thursday December 13. Be sure to head over to take part and feel free to ask your questions during our live discussion.
