What you need to know

The most important goal of all for caring pet parents is making sure their four-legged family members stay happy and healthy for as many years as possible. These precious critters are with us for such a short time, it’s critical that we do everything within our power to extend and improve the quality of that time as much as possible. That’s why wellness care is so important. Mission Veterinary Hospital is proud to partner with you in providing for all of your pet’s ongoing wellness care needs.

Why Wellness Care?

Many otherwise responsible pet owners make the mistake of believing that unless their pet is sick or injured, veterinary care isn’t necessary. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, in many cases, a pet that appears perfectly healthy may be harboring a dangerous secret. Without regular care, underlying medical conditions are allowed to progress and worsen, making them much harder and more costly to treat by the time outward symptoms begin to show.

Routine wellness visits – once or twice a year – allow us to take certain preventative measures to keep your pet healthy and fit. They also provide the opportunity to identify and address potential health concerns before they have a chance to develop into a more serious problem for you and your pet. When we are able to prevent illness, and detect disease in its earliest stages, we are able to extend and improve the quality of your pet’s life exponentially.

What is Wellness Care?

Wellness visits at Mission Veterinary Hospital are extremely thorough. We don’t want to leave any stones unturned when it comes to managing the health of your most cherished companion. We’ll start with a comprehensive physical exam, during which the vet will check your pet – “nose to tail” – to make sure everything is functioning just as it should be. The doctor may also recommend certain routine diagnostic tests to further analyze your pet’s health status.

The information we gather during our routine exams provides us with a guideline of what’s “normal” for your pet. That guideline can then be used on each consecutive visit to measure for any changes as they occur. This provides us with the chance to identify the signs of a potential problem and address it right away, vastly improving the outcome for your four-legged friend.

Wellness visits also include certain preventative measures, such as vaccinations, parasite control, nutrition and weight management. Your pet will encounter a great number of risks throughout his or her lifetime. These preventative tools help us to protect your loved one from the dangers of these risks, and keep them healthier and more fit over time.

Lastly, wellness visits give all of us at Mission Veterinary Hospital the chance to get to know you and your pet better. We firmly believe that the best health care is rooted in a solid relationship between doctor and client and a strong bond with our patients. When we understand your pet’s unique needs, we are much better able to develop the most customized, effective health care plan available. This will help us to improve the chances of helping your precious pet enjoy a long, happy and healthy life by your side.
